Chaos in Ikire: Pasuma’s Convoy Attacked by Suspected Hoodlums, Panic Spreads
Tension erupted in Ikire, a town in the Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State, on Sunday following a violent attack on the convoy of popular Fuji legend, Alhaji Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, sending shockwaves through the entertainment and local communities.
The alarming incident unfolded in the afternoon, when suspected hoodlums reportedly stoned and shot at the vehicles in Pasuma’s convoy. Eyewitnesses confirm that the attack left visible damage on a black Hummer Jeep and a white Hilux truck believed to be part of the singer’s entourage.
A disturbing video from the scene — now circulating widely on social media — captured chaotic scenes, screaming voices, and a panicked voice saying in Pidgin:
“Kasala don burst for Ikire. They don attack us. They carry gun shoot us but God dey.”
Though it's unclear if anyone was injured, the fear and disruption caused by the attack rippled through the area, with business owners and passers-by fleeing in panic.
Pasuma, who was reportedly in Osun for a performance, has yet to respond, and his management remains unreachable as of the time of this report. Likewise, the Osun State Police Command has not issued an official statement or confirmed any arrests.
OPINION: When Music Meets Mayhem – A Wake-Up Call on Security
Pasuma is not just a Fuji icon; he’s a cultural figure loved across Nigeria. An attack on him isn’t just a threat to a celebrity — it’s an indictment on public safety and the growing brazenness of hoodlums.
Whether this was a targeted attack or senseless violence, the implications are troubling. If a public figure with a convoy can’t move safely in daylight, what does this mean for ordinary citizens?
This incident also raises a critical question: Should Nigerian artists reconsider performing in certain locations without guaranteed security presence? And beyond that, what is the government doing to ensure artists, fans, and the general public are safe in and around event venues?
Until these questions are answered, Nigeria’s entertainment scene will continue to walk a tightrope between celebration and chaos.
🗣️ Have we become too used to stories like this? What should the Osun State government and police do next?
