“It Broke My Heart” — Small Doctor Cries Out Over Drug Abuse Among Nigerian Youths

“It Broke My Heart” — Small Doctor Cries Out Over Drug Abuse Among Nigerian Youths

Popular Afrobeats star Small Doctor is sounding the alarm — and this time, it’s not about a song or a stage performance, but a heartbreaking reality affecting the very streets that raised him.

The Agege-bred musician recently took a walk down memory lane — literally — revisiting his childhood neighborhood. But what he witnessed left him shaken: young men he once knew full of promise now sleeping while standing, their bodies and futures hijacked by drug addiction.

Taking to his X handle, Small Doctor didn’t mince words:

“I strolled through hoods on Sunday and what I saw was heartbreaking. The rate young chaps use drugs nowadays is alarming.”

“Most heartbreaking was when I arrived at my hood. I saw some promising guys we grew up together sleeping while standing, some were even making some crazy postures while sleeping.”

He also recalled a conversation from six years ago with Fuji legend Wasiu Ayinde (KWAM 1), who urged him to consider establishing a rehabilitation center, calling it “the new oil” — a prediction that now feels eerily accurate.

“Wasiu Ayinde told me 6 years ago to establish a rehabilitation centre, stating it is the new oil. That man saw the future,” he wrote.

“We Need That Bro Singing Against Drugs”

Small Doctor also made a call-out to a content creator he vaguely remembers — someone known for speaking out against drug abuse on social media, believed to be a strong advocate.

“There’s one bros that sings against drug abuse on socials… I think we need him more this moment.”

🗣 Our Take: This Is Beyond Music — It’s a National Emergency

Small Doctor’s message is raw, real, and necessary. What’s happening in our neighborhoods — from Agege to Enugu, Port Harcourt to Kano — is a slow-burning crisis. Drugs are stealing our youth, not just from the streets, but from classrooms, churches, studios, and dreams.

What’s worse? The silence.

We applaud Small Doctor for using his platform to speak up, even when it’s painful. This isn't about likes or streams — this is about saving lives. His walk through Agege mirrors the journeys of many Nigerians who see the rot but feel helpless. It’s time for leaders, artists, and everyday citizens to amplify the conversation.

Rehabilitation shouldn’t be a luxury. Advocacy shouldn’t be seasonal. Let’s face this together — with urgency, empathy, and action.
