Lobi Stars Begin Short Break After Relegation | Focus Shifts to Rebuilding for NNL Return

Lobi Stars Begin Short Break After Relegation | Focus Shifts to Rebuilding for NNL Return

Following a disappointing end to the 2024–25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, Lobi Stars have officially gone on a short break, with a scheduled return for Monday, June 9, 2025, as the club gears up for life in the Nigeria National League (NNL).

The Makurdi-based side, nicknamed The Pride of Makurdi, endured a dismal campaign — registering just 6 wins, 10 draws, and 22 losses — and ultimately finished at the bottom of the NPFL table, resulting in a painful relegation.

📝 Club Statement

In a statement posted on the club's official Facebook page, Team Manager Mr. Lawrence Adoga, speaking on behalf of Chairman Dr. Phillip Nongu, addressed the players and staff, declaring:

“The club will be embarking on a short break from official duties. Any further updates or changes regarding the resumption and other matters will be duly communicated ahead of time.”

🧠 Opinion: A Moment of Reflection, A Time to Reset

For fans and players alike, this relegation stings. Lobi Stars have long been a fixture in Nigeria's top flight, known for their tenacity and passionate fanbase. The fall to the second tier offers both a harsh reality and a clear opportunity — to reflect, rebuild, and rise again.

While relegation is never easy, it can serve as the wake-up call needed to restructure the club’s technical, financial, and player recruitment systems. Fresh ideas, a focus on youth development, and tactical rejuvenation will be key.

🔄 What Next?

As the June 9 resumption date approaches, fans will be keen to know:

  • 👥 Will there be a new technical crew or management overhaul?

  • 🔄 Which players will stay, leave, or arrive?

  • 🏟️ What is the club’s vision for returning to the NPFL?

📢 A Call to the Faithful

Lobi Stars fans have always been the backbone of the club. Now more than ever, their support will be crucial in this rebuilding phase. The Pride of Makurdi may have lost their top-tier status, but with proper planning and belief, they can roar back stronger.

🏁 Lobi may have stumbled, but the story isn’t over. June 9 marks the beginning of a new chapter — and possibly, a triumphant comeback. 📖✨
