Kenneth Omeruo Seals Move to CFR Cluj — Super Eagles Veteran Set for Romanian Challenge

Kenneth Omeruo Seals Move to CFR Cluj — Super Eagles Veteran Set for Romanian Challenge

Veteran Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo has officially signed for Romanian giants CFR Cluj on a free transfer, after parting ways with Turkish side Kasimpasa earlier this year.

The 30-year-old brings with him a wealth of experience — both at international level and in club football across Europe — and becomes the sixth Nigerian player to feature for the eight-time Romanian Liga I champions.

Omeruo joins compatriot Philip Otele, who is already part of the Cluj squad, and his arrival is expected to boost the club’s defensive stability ahead of the new season.

🔍 A Veteran on a New Mission

From Chelsea to Leganés, and most recently Kasimpasa, Omeruo has spent over a decade playing top-tier football. His calm presence at the back and leadership qualities will prove invaluable to Dan Petrescu’s team, especially as Cluj aim to reclaim the Liga I title and defend their 2024 Romanian Cup victory.

💬 Opinion: Perfect Timing, Perfect Fit?

This move could be a masterstroke for both player and club. For CFR Cluj, they get an experienced centre-back with a proven track record at international level (over 60 caps for Nigeria). For Omeruo, it’s a fresh challenge in a competitive league, and possibly a gateway to revive his European career momentum.

With the AFCON qualifiers and World Cup qualifiers looming, regular club football at Cluj could also keep him in Jose Peseiro’s Super Eagles plans.

🗨️ Reactions from the Football World:

💬 @NaijaScout: “Omeruo to Cluj? Solid move. Romanian football will benefit from his experience.”
💬 @CFRClujFans: “Welcome, Kenneth! We’ve seen what Nigerian players can do – time to write your chapter.”
💬 @SuperEaglesTrack: “More Naija boys in Europe’s top leagues is always a win. Good luck, Omeruo!”

🧠 Final Thought:

At 30, Omeruo isn’t done — he's evolving. This move to Cluj might not make global headlines, but for fans of Nigerian football, it’s another signal that our players continue to fly the flag high — from Lagos to London, and now to Cluj-Napoca.
