Manchester United Open Talks with Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku Amid Summer Attack Reinforcement Plans
Manchester United have reportedly begun negotiations with the representatives of Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku, as they aim to strengthen their attacking lineup ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
According to a report by L’Équipe, the Red Devils are exploring the option of signing Nkunku, who has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge under new manager Enzo Maresca.
Despite making 33 appearances in the Premier League last season, the French international only logged 910 minutes, with just nine starts—a significant drop-off for a player once seen as a marquee signing. Now, with Maresca implementing his tactical blueprint, Nkunku appears to be on the fringes of Chelsea’s long-term plans.
🔄 United’s New Attacking Blueprint
Manchester United have already secured Matheus Cunha from Wolves as part of their rebuild under Erik ten Hag, but it’s clear they aren’t done yet. With a focus on versatility and creativity, United are also tracking Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, as they seek to add depth, flair, and consistency to their forward line.
The talks with Nkunku are still at an early stage, and while no formal bid has been made, the club is believed to be gauging interest and assessing Chelsea’s valuation.
🗣️ Our Take: Nkunku Could Be the Spark United Need—If Fit and Unleashed
Let’s be honest—Nkunku hasn’t had the dream Premier League start. A series of injuries and tactical inconsistencies at Chelsea have stalled what many believed would be a breakout campaign. But at his best, Nkunku is dynamic, explosive, and clinical—everything United’s attack lacked at times last season.
Given the right role and consistent fitness, he could flourish in a system that trusts him, especially in tandem with Cunha, Rashford, and Fernandes.
But United must tread carefully. With fitness concerns, wage structure considerations, and Chelsea’s stance, this deal could either be a steal—or another risk that backfires.
💬 Do you think Nkunku fits into United’s system? Should Chelsea sell or give him one more season under Maresca? Let’s hear your thoughts!
