Cristiano Ronaldo Hints at Possible Link-Up with Lionel Messi, Opens Door to Argentina or MLS Move

Cristiano Ronaldo Hints at Possible Link-Up with Lionel Messi, Opens Door to Argentina or MLS Move

Football legend Cristiano Ronaldo has once again stirred the global football community with intriguing comments that suggest he could play alongside Lionel Messi before retiring.

Speaking ahead of Portugal’s Nations League final clash with Spain, the Al Nassr forward, who turns 41 next season, revealed that his post-Saudi Pro League future is wide open—with possible destinations including the MLS or even Argentina.

“You know I have a lot of affection for Argentina, my wife is from there.

I have already been invited to play in the Club World Cup for an Argentine club. You never know… the time is there.

I am already 40 years old, but you never know. But I think it is very difficult. I have never been to Argentina, I want to go, I have a lot of affection for the Argentines,” Ronaldo said.

The timing of his comments is particularly striking. His contract with Al Nassr ends June 30, and while the club wants him to stay, Ronaldo’s growing openness to new adventures has fueled speculation.

Opinion: CR7 x Messi? A Dream Yet to Be Written

Could we finally witness the impossible—Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi on the same team?

For decades, fans have debated who’s the greatest. But in a poetic twist, the two icons—who defined football for a generation—could unite in their twilight years.

While Ronaldo says it’s “very difficult,” his words leave the door slightly ajar. Whether it’s a romantic Argentine swansong, a Club World Cup cameo, or a Major League Soccer spectacle, the world is listening.

At 40, Ronaldo remains one of football’s most marketable and competitive athletes. If he were to join Messi in a final act of unity, it would go down as one of the most historic football moments of all time.

Whatever the outcome, it’s refreshing to see humility, reflection, and a love for the game still guiding his choices.
