Galatasaray Coach Explains Osimhen Omission — and Why It’s the Right Call
Galatasaray fans were left puzzled when star striker Victor Osimhen was missing from the squad in their opening Turkish Super Lig clash against Gaziantep. The reigning champions, however, made light work of the fixture, strolling to a 3–0 victory without the Nigerian forward.
Head coach Okan Buruk has now revealed that the decision was purely strategic — and all about player safety.
“Osimhen had just five or six days of training. Playing during that period could have been risky for him,” Buruk told CNN Türk.
The Super Eagles striker, who spent last season on loan at Galatasaray before sealing a permanent move just two weeks ago, has been a fan favourite. But Buruk’s explanation makes perfect sense: rushing a player back into competitive football after minimal training is a recipe for injury.
In truth, Galatasaray’s performance without Osimhen was encouraging. It’s proof that the team can adapt — but let’s be honest, fans are eager to see their new signing unleashed in full force. And if sitting out one game ensures Osimhen’s fitness for the long haul, then this is a small price to pay.
The real anticipation now? Seeing how Osimhen links up with his new teammates when he finally makes his first appearance of the season. For Galatasaray, patience could very well be the secret ingredient to another title-winning campaign.
