‘Marriage is a Stupid Step for Me’ — Singer Chike Opens Up on Love, Money, and Happiness
Nigerian singer Chike-Ezekpeazu Osebuka, popularly known as Chike, has stirred conversation with his candid views on marriage and personal happiness.
In an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the Running crooner didn’t mince words about his stance on tying the knot.
“In my personal opinion, I think it’s a stupid step to get married. That’s my opinion,” he said, making it clear that marriage is simply not in his life plans.
The singer added that for him, happiness is closely tied to financial stability.
“I need a lot of money to be happy. It’s not greed, it’s just the life I want,” he explained.
Interestingly, Chike revealed that music wasn’t always part of his vision. His passion for singing only bloomed after university, eventually shaping him into one of Nigeria’s most admired soulful voices.
While some critics label him as “arrogant,” Chike says such opinions roll right off his back, preferring to focus on his craft and his personal path.
Opinion:
Chike’s frankness might ruffle a few feathers, especially in a society where marriage is often seen as a natural milestone. But in truth, his perspective is a reminder that marriage isn’t a universal goal — and it’s perfectly valid to prioritise personal fulfilment over societal expectations.
His emphasis on financial stability also touches on a reality many quietly acknowledge: money may not buy happiness, but it certainly funds comfort, freedom, and peace of mind. For Chike, that’s non-negotiable.
Whether or not fans agree with him, one thing is clear — the singer knows exactly what he wants, both in his personal life and career. And in an industry where image often overshadows authenticity, that kind of honesty is refreshing.
