Bay FC Celebrate Asisat Oshoala After WAFCON 2024 Heroics

National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) side Bay FC have celebrated Nigerian superstar Asisat Oshoala for her role in the Super Falcons’ impressive campaign at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The 30-year-old forward was honoured at PayPal Park ahead of Bay FC’s clash with San Diego Wave, where fans and teammates applauded her contributions on the international stage.

Oshoala featured in all five of Nigeria’s matches at the tournament, scoring once in the Falcons’ opening 3-0 win over Tunisia. Although she did not add to her tally, her experience and presence proved vital as Nigeria advanced strongly in the competition.

The Bay FC star remains one of Africa’s most decorated female footballers, having lifted the WAFCON title four times and scoring 37 goals in 61 appearances for the Super Falcons.

Opinion:
This recognition from Bay FC is more than just a simple gesture — it’s a statement of how much respect Asisat Oshoala commands globally. Many may look at the stat sheet from WAFCON 2024 and see “only one goal,” but Oshoala’s influence cannot be measured by goals alone. Her leadership, movement, and ability to draw defenders opened doors for Nigeria’s younger stars to shine.

At 30, she is no longer the teenager who burst onto the scene at the 2014 U-20 Women’s World Cup. Instead, she is the seasoned leader — the standard-bearer for African women’s football. That Bay FC, a U.S. club, paused to celebrate her African achievement, is proof that Oshoala has transcended borders. She is not just Nigeria’s pride; she is a global ambassador for women’s football.

For the Super Falcons, her continued presence is priceless. For Bay FC, she brings not only goals but also a legacy of excellence. And for the fans, moments like this remind us why Oshoala will forever be remembered as one of the greatest African players of all time.
