Man United in Talks for Lammens as Aston Villa Eye Chelsea Duo

Man United in Talks for Lammens as Aston Villa Eye Chelsea Duo

Manchester United are pushing to sign Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens before the transfer window closes next week.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Antwerp are demanding €25m for the 22-year-old, though negotiations are ongoing for a package closer to €20m plus add-ons. United have already opened talks with the Belgian shot-stopper, with discussions progressing positively.

Crucially, the move for Lammens is said to be unrelated to the future of current No.1, André Onana, who remains the club’s first-choice goalkeeper. Instead, United appear to be targeting Lammens as a long-term option and strong competition within their squad.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the Premier League, Aston Villa have set their sights on a surprise double swoop for Chelsea attackers Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson. Unai Emery’s men have reportedly made contact over potential deals, but they face stiff competition from Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, and other European giants circling around the Stamford Bridge pair.

Opinion: Smart Planning or Transfer Gamble?

For Manchester United, a move for Lammens looks like a forward-thinking piece of business. At just 22, he’s already shown promise, and €20m–25m in today’s market isn’t outrageous for a goalkeeper with his potential. With the club struggling in recent years to secure reliable squad depth, targeting Lammens is a sign that United may finally be learning from their mistakes—planning ahead rather than patching gaps.

Still, fans may wonder: should United really be spending close to €25m on a goalkeeper when other areas—particularly midfield—still look thin? It feels like a move for the future, but one that must be carefully balanced against more pressing needs.

As for Aston Villa, Emery’s ambition is admirable. Nkunku and Jackson would transform Villa’s attacking options, but prising them from Chelsea, especially with Bayern and Leipzig lurking, will be an uphill battle. If Villa can even land one, it would underline their growing stature as a side refusing to settle for mid-table aspirations.

The final week of the window promises drama, but one thing is clear—clubs are moving aggressively, and no deal looks too bold in today’s Premier League.
