Owen Hargreaves Names Senne Lammens as Manchester United’s Best Signing of the Season
Former Manchester United F.C. midfielder Owen Hargreaves has praised goalkeeper Senne Lammens as the club’s most important signing of the season.
Hargreaves made the claim following United’s goalless draw with Sunderland A.F.C. in the Premier League over the weekend.
The Red Devils strengthened heavily last summer, bringing in players such as Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo from Wolves, RB Leipzig and Brentford respectively.
However, Hargreaves believes Lammens has quietly become the club’s standout addition after arriving from Royal Antwerp F.C..
“I will tell you who’s probably the best signing of all of them: Senne Lammens,” Hargreaves said on TNT Sports.
“What did he cost? Not a lot — so he’s value for money. But I genuinely think if they hadn’t sorted the goalkeeper situation, they wouldn’t be in the top four.”
Opinion: Sometimes the Smartest Signings Are the Quietest Ones
In modern football, attention usually follows the biggest transfer fees and most glamorous attacking players. But Senne Lammens may be proving that stability at the back can transform a team more than flashy headlines.
Manchester United’s recent seasons have often been defined by inconsistency in goalkeeping and defensive uncertainty. A reliable goalkeeper does more than make saves — he gives confidence to the entire defence and changes the mentality of the team.
That is likely why Owen Hargreaves singled him out despite the arrivals of more high-profile attacking names.
If United eventually secure a strong league finish or return to serious title contention, Lammens’ impact could be remembered as one of those understated transfers that quietly reshaped the club’s season from the foundation upward.
