Stan Nze: “I Won’t Risk My Life for a Movie Role”

Talented Nollywood actor, Stan Nze, has made it clear that while he is deeply committed to his craft, he would never risk his life for a movie role that involves dangerous stunts.

Speaking in an interview with The Nation, the award-winning actor explained that while many stunt actors in the industry are well paid for their daring performances, he has no intention of putting his life on the line just to be labeled “the best actor in Africa.”

“Why would I? I have done films where characters jump, but it is done by stunt guys – it is their job. We have stunt actors who get well paid to do their thing. They have the experience, they have the knowledge of how to jump and whatever else they need to do.

I’m not going to be foolish and say, because I want to be the best actor in Africa, I will jump down and people do one minute of silence and move on. It is stupidity. I’m going to be alive, get the right training, and do the ones I am meant to do, so that the stunt men can do their job,” he said.

When asked about roles he has not yet played, Nze admitted that nudity is one area he has avoided. However, he hinted that he may consider it if the scene is necessary, short, and modest enough to convey a meaningful message.

Opinion:
Stan Nze’s perspective is both practical and refreshing. In an industry where actors often feel pressured to “go the extra mile” for recognition, his stance emphasizes the importance of safety and professional boundaries. By acknowledging the expertise of stunt performers, he highlights the value of teamwork in filmmaking — reminding audiences that cinema is a collaborative art, not a one-man show.

His openness about potentially exploring roles outside his comfort zone, such as modest nudity if the story demands it, also reflects his growth-minded approach as an actor. It shows he is willing to evolve, but never at the expense of sensibility.

At a time when Nollywood is pushing boundaries globally, Stan’s philosophy could serve as a guidepost: greatness in acting is not about reckless risks, but about smart choices, authenticity, and longevity.
