Rangers’ Coach Ekenedilichukwu Confident Ahead of Tough Kano Pillars Clash
Rangers head coach Ekeh Ekenedilichukwu says he remains optimistic that his side can secure a positive result when they face Kano Pillars at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Sunday.
The highly anticipated fixture pits two of Nigeria’s most established domestic clubs against each other.
Speaking ahead of the clash, Ekenedilichukwu admitted respect for the Pillars’ pedigree but stressed his team’s determination to get a result.
“We are going to Kano to do our best and hope to come out with a positive result. Pillars are not a small side, and we respect them for what they have been able to produce in the domestic league,” he told BSN Sport.
The Flying Antelopes will be keen to avoid a repeat of last season’s encounter in Kano, where they fell 2-1. On that occasion, veteran midfielder Rabiu Ali and Jerry Alex scored for Pillars, while Bashir Usman netted Rangers’ lone goal.
Opinion: Respect Is Key, But Rangers Must Play Without Fear
This fixture is more than just another league game—it’s a clash of giants in Nigerian football. Kano Pillars boast one of the most intimidating atmospheres at home, and history shows they rarely drop points at the Sani Abacha Stadium. Rangers know this all too well, having tasted defeat there last season.
However, what stands out in Ekenedilichukwu’s approach is balance: showing respect for the opposition while maintaining belief in his own squad. That mindset is crucial. Too much respect could lead to cautious play, but self-belief can tilt the balance in Rangers’ favor.
For the Flying Antelopes to succeed, they must blend discipline with courage—shutting down the evergreen Rabiu Ali while daring to take their chances in attack. If they manage this, Sunday’s clash could prove to be a turning point in their campaign.
