Ademola Lookman Returns to Atalanta Training, Eyes Season Debut Against Torino

Ademola Lookman Returns to Atalanta Training, Eyes Season Debut Against Torino

Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman has returned to Atalanta training after holding talks with head coach Ivan Juric, TalkTalk Nigeria reports.

According to Gazzetta, the 27-year-old winger rejoined his teammates on Thursday following their trip back to Italy after Wednesday night’s UEFA Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

Lookman, who pushed for a move to Inter Milan in August, was frozen out of the squad and has yet to feature for Atalanta this season. However, he recently played for Nigeria during the international window, showing he is match-fit and eager to return to club duty.

He is now in line to make his first Serie A appearance of the campaign this weekend when Atalanta face Torino. The Bergamo club, struggling with just one league win so far, will be hoping his return sparks fresh momentum.

Opinion: Atalanta Need Lookman as Much as He Needs Them

Lookman’s return couldn’t have come at a better time. Atalanta’s attack has lacked bite this season, and their uninspiring form reflects it. The Nigerian, who was pivotal in their Europa League success last season, brings pace, creativity, and the ability to change games in an instant.

Yet, this isn’t just about Atalanta’s struggles—it’s also about Lookman’s career. At 27, he’s entering what should be his prime years, and sitting on the sidelines due to transfer wrangles risks stalling the momentum he has worked so hard to build.

The meeting with Juric suggests fences are being mended, and both player and club must now see the bigger picture. Atalanta need his goals and assists; Lookman needs the platform to shine, especially with Nigeria’s Super Eagles counting on him for the World Cup qualifiers.

If Lookman hits the ground running against Torino, this chapter of tension could be quickly forgotten. For now, Atalanta fans will just be happy to see their No. 11 back on the pitch where he belongs.
