May Yul-Edochie’s Former Lawyer, Emeka Ugwuonye, Calls Her a “Terrible Liar” Amid Legal Tussle

May Yul-Edochie’s Former Lawyer, Emeka Ugwuonye, Calls Her a “Terrible Liar” Amid Legal Tussle

The drama between May Yul-Edochie, estranged wife of Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, and her former lawyer, Emeka Ugwuonye, has taken another bitter turn.

Ugwuonye, who once represented May in her ongoing divorce proceedings, has now gone public with private conversations he allegedly had with her. This move comes shortly after May, through her legal team Graylaw Partners, filed a lawsuit against him, accusing the lawyer of cyberbullying, defamation, and cyberstalking.

In a Facebook post on Friday, Ugwuonye shared screenshots of chats he claimed were proof of how he guided May through her legal battles. According to him, he offered her “first-class treatment” during the process, only for her to “betray” him.

“If you see the chats between us, you will understand how fake May is and what a terrible liar she is. All those who believe her are just pitiable,” Ugwuonye wrote, adding that he could release even more damaging evidence if pushed further.

The lawyer also accused May of dishonesty and manipulation, calling her “fake” and warning that her supporters were being misled.

Opinion: When Private Battles Become Public Spectacles

This unfolding saga reflects a larger issue in Nigeria’s social media-driven society: the erosion of privacy in the pursuit of public validation. Divorce is already a deeply painful and personal process, but when lawyers and clients begin to air their grievances online, the line between justice and publicity becomes dangerously blurred.

While Ugwuonye may feel justified in defending his reputation, releasing alleged private conversations risks undermining the very principles of professionalism and confidentiality that should define the legal practice. On the other hand, May’s decision to pursue legal redress highlights her resolve to protect her image amid growing online attacks.

At its core, this is more than just a feud between a client and her lawyer—it’s a reflection of how fragile trust can become in public battles. Nigerians, ever keen observers of celebrity controversies, are left to wonder: when will the personal pain stop being turned into digital entertainment?

In the end, both parties risk losing more than they gain—because in the court of public opinion, reputations are often harder to rebuild than cases are to win.
