Woli Arole Shares Close Call with ‘Divine Jeep’ Scam, Warns Fans About Online Fraud

Woli Arole Shares Close Call with ‘Divine Jeep’ Scam, Warns Fans About Online Fraud

Popular Nigerian comedian and content creator Woli Arole has recounted how he narrowly avoided falling victim to a scam disguised as a “divine blessing.”

In a post shared on Instagram, the comedian revealed that he received a message from an individual claiming that God had instructed them to gift him a brand-new jeep in Togo. While the offer initially appeared miraculous, it quickly raised suspicion.

According to Woli Arole, the sender requested a payment of ₦400,000 to cover transportation costs for a driver who would deliver the vehicle. Alternatively, he was asked to travel to Togo to pick up the car himself.

Recognising the red flags, the comedian declined the offer and instead shared the experience with his followers, using humour to highlight how such schemes operate.

He noted that the promise of sudden fortune or “easy wins” can make people vulnerable, even when the situation seems too good to be true.

Opinion: When Faith Meets Fraud in the Digital Age

Woli Arole’s story, though humorous, reflects a serious and growing issue—scammers increasingly exploiting faith, trust, and emotions to deceive people.

By framing the offer as a divine instruction, the scammer targeted not just curiosity, but belief. This tactic is particularly dangerous because it lowers skepticism and encourages quick, emotional decisions.

What stands out is how easily such schemes can appear convincing. A promise of a free car, a sense of urgency, and a relatively “small” processing fee are classic elements designed to trap victims.

The comedian’s decision to share the story publicly is important. It transforms a near-miss into a lesson, reminding people that caution should always outweigh excitement—especially in an era where scams are becoming more creative.

Ultimately, the takeaway is simple: if an offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is. And no genuine blessing comes with a payment request attached.
