‘Divorce Is Not an Option for Me’ — Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde Speaks on 30-Year Marriage

Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has revealed that divorce is not something she considers in her marriage, crediting the stability of her relationship to the character and support of her husband, Matthew Ekeinde.

In a recent interview, the actress reflected on her over three-decade-long marriage, describing her husband as a trusting and selfless partner who has consistently supported her career and personal growth.

According to Omotola, every marriage is different and should never be measured against others. She stressed that her perspective on divorce is based on her personal experience rather than a universal rule for everyone.

“Divorce isn’t an option for me. It doesn’t mean it isn’t an option for you. I am not against divorce. I just always believe that marriage is a very personal thing. My marriage can never be the same thing as your marriage,” she said.

The mother of four explained that trust and freedom have been central to their relationship, adding that her husband has never tried to restrict her career. She also noted that throughout their marriage, they have never had conflicts over infidelity.

“My husband is a very selfless person; he has no ego. I’ve been married to him for over 30 years, and we have never fought over a girl. He doesn’t disturb me. If I have to go do my work, he trusts me totally, and I trust him,” she added.

Opinion: A Reminder That Strong Marriages Are Built, Not Perfect

Omotola’s comments offer a refreshing perspective in a time when celebrity marriages often dominate headlines for breakups and scandals. Her message highlights a truth many people overlook—lasting marriages are rarely about perfection, but about trust, patience and mutual respect.

Her emphasis that every marriage is different is also important. In a society where people often compare relationships on social media, her words serve as a reminder that what works for one couple may not work for another.

More than anything, her story reflects the power of partnership. When two people allow each other space to grow while maintaining trust, marriage can evolve into a stable and supportive union that stands the test of time.
