Okoye Cleared for Como Clash as Udinese Receive Post-Break Boost

Okoye Cleared for Como Clash as Udinese Receive Post-Break Boost

Udinese head coach Kosta Runjaic has confirmed that Nigerian goalkeeper Maduka Okoye is fit and available for selection ahead of Monday’s clash with Como.

Okoye had raised concerns after sustaining a thigh injury while on international duty with the Nigeria national team. The 26-year-old featured in Nigeria’s 2-1 win over Iran but was later withdrawn from the squad before their 2-2 draw with Jordan after picking up the knock in training.

However, Runjaic has now provided a positive update, revealing that the goalkeeper has recovered in time and is part of a near fully-fit squad heading into the fixture.

“Except for Zemura, Buksa and Zanoli, everyone is available. Today we finally trained with the full squad after the international break,” the coach told the club’s official website.

Okoye’s return is a timely boost for Udinese as they resume league action following the international break.

Opinion: A Chance for Okoye to Reassert Himself

Maduka Okoye’s availability is good news—but it also comes with expectation.

For a goalkeeper, consistency is everything. Injuries, especially those picked up during international duty, can disrupt rhythm and confidence. Now that he’s fit again, this is an opportunity for Okoye to reestablish himself as a dependable presence between the posts.

There’s also the broader conversation about player welfare. International breaks are often a double-edged sword—players gain exposure and pride representing their country, but clubs bear the risk of injuries. Okoye’s quick return is fortunate, but not every player is as lucky.

For Udinese, having a full squad back is a major advantage. But for Okoye personally, this moment is about more than just being available—it’s about delivering performances that silence any doubts and reinforce his importance to both club and country.

Because in football, returning from injury is only half the job. The real test is what you do next.
