Daniel Thioune Hints Victor Boniface May Miss Werder Bremen Squad vs FC Augsburg

Daniel Thioune Hints Victor Boniface May Miss Werder Bremen Squad vs FC Augsburg

Head coach Daniel Thioune has suggested that Nigerian forward Victor Boniface could be left out of Werder Bremen’s matchday squad for their upcoming Bundesliga clash against FC Augsburg.

Boniface, who joined Bremen on loan during the summer transfer window, has endured a stop-start season due to injuries, most recently recovering from a knee problem. Although he returned to training last week, he was not involved in Bremen’s 1–1 draw with VfB Stuttgart.

Speaking ahead of the Augsburg fixture, Thioune acknowledged the striker’s progress but emphasized that competition within the squad has intensified, especially with the return of key players like Marco Friedl and Marco Grüll.

“It was crucial for Victor to return. He performed well last week,” Thioune said. “But with more players available, I will have to make decisions that may exclude one or two players.”

The manager also pointed out that Bremen have multiple physical attacking options, including Salim Musah and Jovan Milosevic, who offer similar qualities to Boniface.

He stressed that selection will ultimately depend on training performances, making it clear that no player is guaranteed a place.

As Bremen push to secure their Bundesliga status, Boniface faces a crucial period to prove his fitness and earn his spot back in the squad.

Opinion: Talent Isn’t Enough—Consistency Is Boniface’s Real Test

For Victor Boniface, this moment is less about ability and more about timing.

There’s little doubt about his talent or physical presence, but football at this level rewards consistency above all else. Injuries have disrupted his rhythm, and in a competitive squad like Werder Bremen, absence often means replacement.

Daniel Thioune’s comments reflect a broader reality in modern football—managers prioritize reliability. If other players are fit, in form, and delivering, it becomes difficult to justify immediate reintegration, no matter how talented the returning player is.

However, this situation could also work in Boniface’s favor. Competition often sharpens players, and if he responds positively in training, he could return stronger and more determined.

The real challenge now is simple but demanding: stay fit, stay sharp, and take every opportunity when it comes.

Because at this stage of the season, chances are limited—and every minute on the pitch counts.
