Davido, Rarara Clash Online Over Insecurity Debate As Nigerians Debate Celebrities’ Role In National Issues

Davido, Rarara Clash Online Over Insecurity Debate As Nigerians Debate Celebrities’ Role In National Issues

A heated social media exchange has erupted between Nigerian musicians Davido and Dauda Kahutu Rarara, sparking widespread reactions over the role of entertainers in speaking on national issues.

The controversy started on Tuesday night after Rarara shared a video criticising Davido over his recent comments on insecurity in Nigeria.

The disagreement followed Davido’s appearance during activities linked to the 2026 FIFA World Cup preparations, where the singer wore a shirt featuring the Nigerian flag and the names of schoolchildren reportedly abducted in Oyo State — a gesture that drew attention to the country’s security challenges.

The incident referenced an attack on a school in Oyo State last month, where armed men reportedly abducted pupils and teachers, leading to public outrage and renewed calls for improved security across the country.

Reacting to the criticism, Davido took to X on Wednesday morning, insisting that Nigerians should not remain silent about insecurity or prevent others from expressing their concerns.

“Every Nigerian should not stay silent about the insecurity plaguing the nation, nor should they prevent others from voicing their concerns openly,” Davido wrote, adding that patriotism should come before political interests.

The singer later shared another post in Hausa, apparently directed at Rarara, saying: “Da ace kana da ilimi da na tsaya nayi magana dakai. Amma komai baka sani ba, sakarai kawai,” which translates to: “If you had any knowledge, I would have taken the time to argue with you. But you know absolutely nothing; you’re just a fool.”

Rarara responded in the comment section with “Ka shiga taitayinka,” meaning “You should be careful.”

The exchange has since dominated conversations on social media, with supporters of both musicians defending their preferred sides.

While some users praised Davido for using his platform to highlight security concerns, others argued that celebrities should approach sensitive national issues with more caution. The debate has once again raised questions about the influence of public figures and whether speaking out on social matters should be considered activism or overstepping boundaries.
