Mercy Johnson Sparks Reactions With Cryptic Message After Baba Ijesha’s Marriage Announcement
Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson has stirred conversations online after sharing a cryptic message shortly after the news of controversial actor Baba Ijesha’s marriage to designer Anjy Luminee and the birth of their son.
In a lengthy post shared on her Instagram page, Mercy spoke about God’s ability to restore, redeem and give people second chances, stressing that divine decisions are not controlled by public opinion or human judgment.
She wrote that “God is not a man” and does not judge based on people’s opinions, criticism or mockery. According to the actress, what people reject can be restored by God, while situations condemned by society can still experience redemption.
Mercy’s message highlighted themes of forgiveness, new beginnings and finding peace without seeking approval from others.
“His mercy is not limited by human understanding, and His blessings are not controlled by human approval,” she wrote, adding that people should remain faithful, grateful and at peace despite what others say.
Although Mercy Johnson did not directly mention Baba Ijesha or his wife, the timing of the post led many social media users to link it to the ongoing discussions surrounding the actor’s marriage and the reactions that followed.
Baba Ijesha’s recent announcement that he and Luminee welcomed a baby boy has generated mixed reactions, with some celebrities celebrating the family while others questioned the decision to support the actor due to his past legal troubles.
The actor was convicted by a Lagos State High Court in 2022 over allegations involving a minor and was sentenced to prison. However, the conviction was later overturned by the Court of Appeal, and he was released in November 2025.
The case had attracted widespread public attention after comedian Princess accused him of sexually assaulting her 14-year-old ward, an allegation Baba Ijesha has denied. In previous interviews, the actor maintained that he is not a paedophile or a rapist and described the accusations as painful.
Mercy Johnson’s post has now added another layer to the conversation, with some interpreting it as a message about forgiveness and second chances, while others believe it reflects the broader debate about accountability, public opinion and whether people can move beyond past controversies.
The situation continues to divide opinions, highlighting the difficult balance between personal redemption and public accountability.
