Doma United Promise Merit-Based Selection as NPFL Return Preparations Begin

Doma United Promise Merit-Based Selection as NPFL Return Preparations Begin

Doma United chairman, Suleiman Umar, has urged newly invited players to give their maximum effort as the club’s screening exercise continues ahead of the new Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

Umar assured the trialists that the selection process would be strictly based on talent, commitment, and performance, stressing that every player would have an equal opportunity to earn a place in the squad regardless of background.

The screening exercise, which began on Friday, June 19, is being held at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe as the Savannah Tigers intensify preparations for their return to the top flight.

“Any player that is good will be picked. We believe in ability, commitment, and hard work,” Umar told the players during his address.

The chairman’s message reflects Doma United’s ambition to build a strong and competitive team capable of competing effectively in the NPFL after securing promotion back to the elite division.

Opinion: For a club returning to the NPFL, getting recruitment right could determine the direction of the season. Doma United’s decision to open its doors to players and focus on merit is a positive step, but the real test will come in identifying players who can handle the pressure, intensity, and expectations of top-flight football.

A successful screening exercise should not only discover talented individuals but also create a balanced squad with the hunger and discipline needed to survive among Nigeria’s best clubs. If the Savannah Tigers maintain this approach, their NPFL return could become more than just a promotion story — it could mark the beginning of a stronger football project in Gombe.
