Mbappe Joins World Cup Greats After Historic Scoring Feat Against Iraq

Mbappe Joins World Cup Greats After Historic Scoring Feat Against Iraq

France captain Kylian Mbappe has entered another chapter of World Cup history after becoming the fourth player to score multiple goals in three consecutive FIFA World Cup appearances.

The Real Madrid forward achieved the milestone after scoring a brace in France’s 3-0 victory over Iraq in their Group I encounter.

Mbappe had earlier scored twice in France’s opening match against Senegal, while he also produced a remarkable performance in the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar, scoring a hat-trick against Argentina.

According to football statistics platform Opta, Mbappe is now among the elite group of players to score at least two goals in three successive World Cup appearances. The list includes Sándor Kocsis, who achieved the feat across four matches in 1954, Guillermo Stabile in 1930, and Lionel Messi in 2026.

The 27-year-old will now aim to continue his impressive form when France face Norway in their final Group I fixture on Friday.

Both France and Norway have already secured qualification to the Round of 32 after winning their opening two matches and collecting six points each.

Opinion: Mbappe’s latest achievement further strengthens his growing reputation as one of the greatest players of his generation. While many stars have shone briefly at the World Cup, his ability to consistently deliver goals on football’s biggest stage sets him apart.

At just 27, Mbappe is already building a record that places him alongside some of the game’s historic names. The challenge now is whether he can transform individual brilliance into another memorable World Cup campaign for France.
