Charly Boy Reveals Troubled Past, Admits Involvement in Crime During His Youth in America

Nigerian activist and entertainer Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has opened up about his past, revealing that he made several wrong choices during his younger years in the United States.

The veteran entertainer made the revelation during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time, where he reflected on his life journey and the mistakes he made before becoming known for his activism and social commentary.

Charly Boy admitted that he engaged in activities he now regrets, describing his younger years as a period filled with risky decisions and poor judgment.

“I’ve made mistakes in my life. I’ve been a thief. I’ve done very risky things. I’ve done very stupid things, very foolish things. In fact, I have no business being here with you tonight, but I guess there’s a purpose for my life,” he said.

He further disclosed that while living in America at about age 25, he was involved in financial crimes, which he described as part of a reckless chapter of his life.

“I was doing white-collar crime when I was in America. I was about 25 years old. I was doing a lot of stupid stuff. That’s why I say I’ve been there,” he added.

The social commentator explained that he chose not to hide his past but instead documented those experiences in his memoir as part of a story of transformation, self-discovery and personal growth.

Opinion: Charly Boy’s decision to speak openly about his past shows that public figures can use their experiences as lessons rather than simply protect their image. While past mistakes may shape a person’s story, the bigger conversation is about accountability, change and the choices people make after recognizing their wrong paths.
