Crystal Palace are reportedly exploring a move for Japanese defender Takehiro Tomiyasu as the club looks to strengthen its squad ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League season.

Tomiyasu, who is currently a free agent, has been included in Palace's pre-season tour of Italy and was named on the bench during the Eagles' 3-0 defeat to French side RC Lens.

The versatile defender has been training with manager Pierre Sage's squad, which is currently short on numbers as several players continue to recover from their World Cup commitments.

Tomiyasu became available after leaving Ajax at the expiration of his short-term contract in June. Despite his departure from the Dutch club, the former Arsenal defender has remained in London following the end of his spell at the Emirates Stadium in 2025.

The 27-year-old is believed to be keen on returning to Premier League football, although he is also attracting interest from clubs outside England.

Capable of playing as a right-back, centre-back, or left-back, Tomiyasu's versatility and top-flight experience make him an attractive option for Crystal Palace as they seek to bolster their defensive options before the transfer window closes.
