Arteta Sets New Standard After Arsenal’s Title Triumph: ‘This Must Be the Beginning’

Arteta Sets New Standard After Arsenal’s Title Triumph: ‘This Must Be the Beginning’

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has declared that the club's Premier League title-winning campaign should mark the beginning of a new era rather than the peak of its success, as the Gunners prepare to defend their crown in the 2026/27 season.

Arteta made his first public comments since Arsenal's title parade in June, reflecting on the club's historic achievement while outlining his ambitions for the future.

The North London side ended a 22-year wait for the Premier League trophy by finishing seven points clear of Manchester City, capping off a memorable campaign that restored Arsenal to the summit of English football.

With several of the club's domestic rivals entering the new season under fresh managerial leadership, Arsenal are widely regarded as one of the favourites to retain the title.

Speaking to the Arsenal App, Arteta described the title celebrations as the greatest moment of his football career.

"It was probably the best football experience I've ever had. It ranks at the highest level, surpassing any other trophy I've won or moment I've experienced," he said.

The Spaniard praised the transformation the club has undergone, highlighting the rebuilding of Arsenal's identity, culture, and relationship with its supporters.

However, Arteta stressed that last season's success should not lead to complacency.

"This must be the beginning, and this must be our benchmark," he declared.

"Excellence should be our benchmark, and it must propel us to pursue the future. Our daily conduct must reflect increasing determination and ambition, as we have demonstrated our capabilities.

"Now, we need to prove that we belong at this level and aspire to elevate this football club to new heights."

Arteta also emphasized the importance of maintaining consistency and focus throughout the long campaign.

"My goal is to ensure that we consistently meet the standards and requirements each day to improve the next. Moreover, sustaining that ambition, discipline, commitment, and positive energy throughout the 11 months is our collective responsibility. If we can all accomplish this, we will find ourselves in a very strong position come May."

With expectations now higher than ever, Arsenal will be looking to build on their breakthrough season and establish themselves as the dominant force in English football.

Opinion: The Hardest Trophy to Win Is the One After the First

Winning the Premier League is an extraordinary achievement, but defending it is often an even greater challenge. Mikel Arteta appears to understand that reality, and his message reflects the mindset required to build a lasting dynasty rather than celebrate a single success.

By insisting that the title is "the beginning" rather than the destination, Arteta is sending a clear signal to his players that standards cannot drop. History has shown that champions quickly become targets, with every opponent eager to knock them off their perch.

Arsenal's stability could prove to be one of their biggest strengths. While several major rivals are adjusting to new managers and fresh tactical ideas, the Gunners already have an established philosophy, a settled squad, and a coach who has earned the trust of both players and supporters.

Still, words alone will not win another league title. Maintaining hunger after achieving a lifelong ambition is one of football's greatest tests. If Arsenal can preserve the same intensity, discipline, and togetherness that carried them to the championship, they will have every chance of remaining the team to beat in the Premier League.
