Former AC Milan star Dejan Savićević has expressed his disappointment that the late Franco Baresi never won the Ballon d'Or, describing the omission as one of football's greatest injustices.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Montenegrin did not hold back in his criticism of the Ballon d'Or voting process.

"It's a disgrace. How can you not give the Ballon d'Or to Baresi? But it's your fault.

"You journalists. You didn't vote for him. Only the Dutch won. Rijkaard always finished ahead of him, in first place.

"But Baresi was something else: he was a phenomenon. Look, don't talk to me about the Ballon d'Or, it pisses me off."

Baresi, regarded as one of the greatest defenders in football history, dedicated his entire 20-year professional career to AC Milan, becoming the symbol of the club's dominance in both Italian and European football.

His leadership, impeccable positioning and tactical intelligence helped Milan win numerous domestic and continental titles, earning him worldwide admiration despite never claiming the Ballon d'Or.
