Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has dismissed speculation linking Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Jr with a sensational move to Arsenal, insisting it is highly unlikely that the Brazilian will swap the Santiago Bernabéu for the Emirates Stadium.

Vinicius has developed into one of the world's most feared attackers since joining Real Madrid, scoring 128 goals and providing 100 assists in 375 appearances across all competitions. The Brazilian also enhanced his reputation at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he scored four goals and registered one assist in five matches to help Brazil mount a strong campaign.

With his current contract due to expire at the end of the 2026/27 season, reports have suggested Arsenal are closely monitoring the situation and are prepared to test Real Madrid's resolve with a blockbuster offer.

The speculation intensified after negotiations over a contract extension between Vinicius and Real Madrid reportedly hit a stumbling block. The main issue is believed to be salary expectations, with the Brazilian said to be demanding around €30 million per year, while the Spanish giants have offered approximately €20 million annually.

Reports also claim Arsenal are prepared to shatter their existing wage structure in an attempt to persuade the 26-year-old to move to North London.

Despite those rumours, Cascarino remains unconvinced.

Speaking on talkSPORT, the former Republic of Ireland international argued that Real Madrid rarely allow their elite stars to leave during their peak years.

"I just can't envision that happening. Some people will mention Martin Ødegaard, but it's a completely different situation. Vinicius has been one of Real Madrid's best players for years.

"Who really leaves Real Madrid? They're one of the biggest clubs in the world and they pay the highest wages. I'd love to see him in the Premier League, but I think it's much less likely than many people believe."

Arsenal, who are looking to strengthen their squad after another successful campaign, continue to be linked with several high-profile names, but convincing Real Madrid to part ways with one of their biggest stars remains an enormous challenge.

Arsenal's reported interest in Vinicius Jr underlines just how ambitious the club has become under Mikel Arteta. A few years ago, links with a player of his stature would have been dismissed almost immediately. Today, they at least spark genuine discussion.

That said, Tony Cascarino makes a compelling point. Players in Vinicius' position rarely leave Real Madrid unless the club decides it's time. The Brazilian is entering the prime of his career, remains one of the faces of the club, and would command a salary that only a handful of teams in world football can realistically afford.

Unless contract negotiations collapse completely or Vinicius personally pushes for a new challenge, Arsenal's hopes of signing him appear slim. The Gunners may have the ambition and financial strength to compete, but prising one of Real Madrid's biggest stars away from the Bernabéu is a different challenge altogether.
