Rivers United Host San Pedro In Uyo With The Tie Level

Rivers United host San Pedro of Cote d'Ivoire today in the second leg of their CAF Champions League first preliminary round tie, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium. The first leg was drawn. Captain Stephen Manyo says the team is ready to fight for the win.

The tie is level, which means home advantage decides it

Finidi George's side get the second leg at home, which is the draw every Nigerian club wants and the one they most often waste. Rangers needed a shootout to survive the same round against a Beninese side on Friday. The pattern is not encouraging.

Finidi's position

He has managed the Super Eagles and he is now doing the harder job, which is running a domestic club with continental ambitions on a domestic budget. Getting Rivers United through tonight would be worth more to his standing than most things available to him at this level, and losing at home to an Ivorian side would be the sort of result that follows a coach around.
