Stanley Nwabali returned to Nigeria's goal for the Madagascar qualifier, conceded a header to Ehsan Kari on 16 minutes, and later made a one-on-one save that Eric Chelle singled out afterwards. The former Monaco forward Victor Ikpeba has since ranked him above Maduka Okoye as first choice.
A goalkeeper's night in two moments
The goal was a header from a set position, the kind that gets replayed and argued over. The save was a one-on-one with the score still level or close, the kind that decides results and gets forgotten. Goalkeepers are judged unfairly on the first and rarely enough on the second.
