AFCON 2025 qualifier: Okoye wants to return as Super Eagles number one.
Maduka Okoye has stated that he will battle hard to reclaim the Super Eagles' number one goalkeeper position.
Okoye was the Super Eagles' first-choice goalkeeper for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
The 25-year-old, however, lost his place in the team after making a mistake in the Super Eagles' Round of 16 match against Tunisia.
The Udinese shot stopper was neglected for around two years before being recalled to the team.
Okoye has recently stated that he intends to retake the No. 1 jersey.
"Yeah of course this is what I want, but Stanley (Nwabali) set a high point with a great AFCON, so I'm just patiently waiting, and trying to do my best in training and impress the staff as much as possible," he told Football Temple.
