Super Falcons Star Esther Okoronkwo Confident Nigeria Will Win 11th WAFCON Title
Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo has expressed strong confidence that Nigeria will clinch their 11th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title when the continental tournament kicks off in 2026.
Nigeria’s women’s national team, who remain the most successful side in African women’s football, booked their place at the upcoming WAFCON finals after securing a 3-1 aggregate victory over the Amazons of Benin Republic on Tuesday.
The competition will also serve as a qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, adding even more significance to the campaign.
Speaking to Channels Television, Okoronkwo reaffirmed her belief in the team’s ability and the winning culture that has long defined the Super Falcons.
“Yes, with Nigeria, everything is possible for sure,” she said.
“We’re not going there to not want to win or just go there for vibes. We want to win the 11th [WAFCON title] for sure.”
The Super Falcons, led by head coach Justine Madugu, are already seen as strong contenders, boasting an impressive blend of experience and emerging talent, including players like Asisat Oshoala, Rasheedat Ajibade, and Jennifer Echegini.
⚽ Opinion: Confidence Alone Won’t Be Enough — The Falcons Must Evolve to Stay Dominant
Esther Okoronkwo’s optimism is exactly what fans love to hear — bold, passionate, and full of belief. And truth be told, when you wear the Nigerian green and white, belief is the least of your problems. The Super Falcons have dominated African women’s football for decades, collecting trophies almost as if by habit.
However, football has evolved — and so has Africa. Nations like South Africa, Morocco, and Zambia are no longer underdogs. They have invested heavily in women’s football, producing technically sharp, well-organized teams that can go toe-to-toe with the Falcons.
To win that 11th title, Nigeria must not only rely on history and confidence but also on tactical flexibility, fitness, and mental focus. The Falcons must learn from their last WAFCON outing, where they struggled to assert dominance in key games.
The encouraging part? Players like Okoronkwo bring a new energy — fearless, vocal, and hungry. Their determination could be the fuel the team needs to reclaim continental supremacy once again.
If Madugu can blend the old guard’s experience with the new generation’s drive, then perhaps Esther Okoronkwo’s words won’t just be confident talk — they’ll be a prophecy fulfilled.
The message is clear: Nigeria isn’t just showing up. They’re coming for number 11. 💚⚽
