Enyimba’s Interim Coach Lawrence Ukaegbu Vows Revival Ahead of Katsina United Clash

Enyimba’s Interim Coach Lawrence Ukaegbu Vows Revival Ahead of Katsina United Clash

Enyimba head coach Lawrence Ukaegbu says the club is fully focused on bouncing back to winning ways, following a managerial shake-up that saw veteran coach Stanley Eguma suspended last week.

Ukaegbu has taken charge on an interim basis, and his first major test arrives on Sunday when the nine-time NPFL champions travel to Katsina for a matchday 14 showdown against Katsina United.

Speaking ahead of the fixture, the coach revealed that the squad has held internal conversations and renewed its commitment to delivering results.

“The players have promised to work hard to get a good result against Katsina United,” Ukaegbu said in his pre-match press briefing.
“We promised to bring joy to club supporters and also to bring discipline, togetherness and friendliness to make the team move forward.”

The acknowledgment of discipline and togetherness suggests Enyimba’s struggles this season may not have been purely tactical, but also internal—making Ukaegbu’s leadership style crucial in the coming weeks.

Opinion: A Fresh Start or a Temporary Fix?

Enyimba fans have every reason to watch this new era with cautious optimism. The club is too big, too historic, and too decorated to linger in mediocrity. But football isn’t won on pedigree—it’s won on cohesion, belief, and accountability, all of which Ukaegbu seems determined to restore.

His emphasis on unity and discipline hints at a culture reset, which may be exactly what the team needs. Sometimes, a managerial change isn’t just about tactics but about shaking off complacency and reminding players of the badge they represent.

However, interim appointments often come with pressure—results must arrive quickly to earn trust. Sunday’s match against Katsina United could set the tone for the rest of Enyimba’s season. A win wouldn’t just bring three points—it would signal that the players are truly buying into the new direction.

For a club with Enyimba’s legacy, returning to winning ways isn’t optional—it’s expected. And if Ukaegbu can turn resolve into performance, this reshuffle may become the turning point supporters have been waiting for.
