Ibom Angels Boss Edwin Okon Promises Attractive Football in New NWFL Season

Ibom Angels Boss Edwin Okon Promises Attractive Football in New NWFL Season

Ibom Angels head coach Edwin Okon has reassured supporters that they can expect quality and entertaining football from the team throughout the 2025–26 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) season.

The Orange Ladies kicked off their campaign with a goalless draw against Naija Ratels at the Bwari Stadium in Abuja on Wednesday. Despite the lack of goals, Okon expressed confidence in his side’s style of play and insisted that the team will not abandon their identity regardless of their opponents.

“I always like good football, I’m an apostle of good football,” Okon told the club’s media.
“Expect good football from Ibom Angels, no matter their class, no matter their levels. I’m a grassroots coach, and I love grassroots football so much.”

Ibom Angels will continue their season next Wednesday when they take on Pacesetter Queens in a matchday two fixture.

Opinion: Okon’s Commitment to Attractive Football Could Shape Ibom Angels’ Identity

Edwin Okon’s message is clear and refreshing: Ibom Angels will not compromise on good football. In a league where some teams prioritize physicality and results over fluidity and style, Okon’s commitment to quality play is both bold and admirable.

The opening-day draw against Naija Ratels might not have delivered goals, but it revealed something more important—intent. A team that believes in its philosophy, even when the scoreboard isn’t flattering, is a team that can evolve into a genuine contender as the season progresses.

Okon’s emphasis on grassroots football also speaks volumes. It suggests a focus on nurturing raw talent, encouraging creativity, and developing players who can express themselves on the pitch. That is the kind of foundation that produces not just results, but stars.

Of course, beautiful football must eventually translate into wins, especially in a league as competitive as the NWFL. But if Ibom Angels can blend style with efficiency, they could become one of the most exciting teams to watch this season.

Their next test against Pacesetter Queens will be another chance to showcase that identity—and perhaps convince more fans that the Orange Ladies are on the rise.
