Nasarawa United Tighten Grip at the Summit as NPFL Title Race Heats Up
Nasarawa United strengthened their hold at the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table after grinding out a goalless draw against Plateau United at the New Jos Stadium on Sunday.
Although the Solid Miners are yet to record a victory against Plateau United in Jos, the result proved valuable. Mbwas Mangut’s men moved to 31 points from 17 matches, extending their lead at the summit and reinforcing their status as genuine title contenders this season.
The encounter was fiercely contested, with Plateau United pushing for a rare home win over the league leaders. However, Nasarawa United showed resilience and tactical discipline, settling for a point that could prove crucial in the long run.
Abia Warriors, Shooting Stars Shine on the Road
Abia Warriors continued their impressive campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 away victory over Kun Khalifat FC, climbing to fourth place on the standings. Suraju Lawal emerged the hero, scoring the decisive goal nine minutes from time to hand Imama Amapakabo’s side a vital three points.
Shooting Stars also enjoyed success away from home, edging Barau FC 1-0 at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano. An early strike from Sadiq Ibrahim in the ninth minute was enough to secure the Ibadan club’s second away win of the season — a rare but significant achievement in the NPFL.
Bayelsa United Stun Champions as Enyimba Impress
Defending champions Remo Stars suffered a setback in Yenagoa, falling 2-1 to Bayelsa United at the Samson Siasia Stadium. Victor Mbaoma gave Remo Stars an early lead, but Bayelsa United responded with determination as Fabby Clark and Emo James turned the game around.
Elsewhere, Enyimba delivered a statement performance with a 3-1 victory over Kwara United, while Niger Tornadoes dominated El-Kanemi Warriors 3-0, underlining their attacking strength.

Opinion: Consistency, Not Glamour, May Decide the Title
As the NPFL season approaches its midpoint, one thing is becoming clear — consistency is the real currency of success. Nasarawa United may not always dominate headlines, but their ability to grind out results in tough venues like Jos is what separates champions from contenders.
With traditional heavyweights like Remo Stars dropping points and clubs such as Abia Warriors quietly rising, the title race remains wide open. If Nasarawa United maintain their discipline and composure, they could be writing one of the league’s most compelling stories in recent years.
The NPFL, once again, proves why it remains one of the most unpredictable and thrilling leagues on the continent.
