Toroğlu Rates Icardi Above Osimhen After Galatasaray Win Over Antalyaspor
Ekol TV commentator Erman Toroğlu has sparked debate after claiming that Mauro Icardi is far superior to Victor Osimhen, despite both players finding the net in Galatasaray’s convincing 4-1 victory over Antalyaspor in the Turkish Süper Lig on Saturday.
Galatasaray cruised to the win with goals from Osimhen, Icardi, Leroy Sané, and Roland Sallai, further strengthening their position at the top of the table. However, Toroğlu was unimpressed with the Nigerian striker’s overall performance, focusing on missed chances that could have made the scoreline even more emphatic.
While analysing the match, Toroğlu praised Icardi’s composure in front of goal, especially his ability to score with minimal touches, something he believes sets the Argentine apart.
“Icardi is very good with one-touch shots. I would debate whether Osimhen could make that shot, but Icardi can,” Toroğlu said.
He added that several opportunities Osimhen failed to convert in the first half would likely have ended in goals had they fallen to Icardi, insisting that the former Inter Milan striker offers superior football quality. Toroğlu also criticised Osimhen for not squaring the ball to teammate Yunus Akgün during a clear chance, describing the missed opportunity as avoidable.
Opinion: Goals Matter, But Styles Tell Different Stories
Toroğlu’s comments reflect a classic football debate: technical elegance versus physical dominance. Icardi thrives on sharp movement, clinical finishing, and intelligent positioning — qualities that make him lethal in tight spaces. Osimhen, on the other hand, offers explosive pace, strength, relentless pressing, and an ability to stretch defences.
While Osimhen did miss a few chances, he still found the net and consistently troubled Antalyaspor’s backline. Football is rarely about perfection, and even elite strikers miss opportunities. What matters is influence, and Osimhen’s presence alone often creates space and panic for defenders.
Rather than viewing the two as rivals, Galatasaray may be best served by appreciating how both strikers complement each other, offering different weapons depending on the opponent. On nights when precision is needed, Icardi shines. On nights that demand power and chaos, Osimhen delivers.
In the end, the scoreboard showed a 4-1 win — and both forwards played their part.
