Tunisia Take Early Control of Group C with Convincing Win Over Uganda

Tunisia Take Early Control of Group C with Convincing Win Over Uganda

Tunisia have surged to the top of Group C at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after a commanding 3–1 victory over Uganda on Tuesday night.

The Carthage Eagles wasted no time asserting their dominance, racing into a two-goal lead in the first half through Ellyes Skhiri and Elias Achouri. Tunisia continued to dictate the tempo after the break, and Achouri capped a fine individual display by grabbing his second goal in the 64th minute to effectively seal the contest.

Uganda managed a late consolation in added time when Denis Omedi found the net, but it was little more than a footnote on a night that belonged to Tunisia.

The result places Tunisia at the top of the group on goal difference, ahead of Nigeria, who earlier edged Tanzania 2–1 to sit second. Attention now turns to the highly anticipated clash between the Carthage Eagles and the Super Eagles, a game that could shape the destiny of Group C.

Opinion: Tunisia’s performance was a clear statement of intent. Calm, clinical, and well-organised, they looked every inch a team that has come to Morocco with serious ambitions. Achouri’s brace highlighted their attacking sharpness, while Skhiri’s control in midfield showed their balance and experience.

For Nigeria, this result raises the stakes. Finishing second in the group is still very achievable, but facing Tunisia now feels like an early knockout test. If the Super Eagles truly want to challenge for a fourth AFCON title, matching — or surpassing — Tunisia’s level in that encounter will be a strong indicator of how far they can go in this tournament.
