AFCON 2025: Hannibal Says Tunisia Brimming with Confidence Ahead of Nigeria Clash

AFCON 2025: Hannibal Says Tunisia Brimming with Confidence Ahead of Nigeria Clash

Tunisia midfielder Mejbri Hannibal has revealed that his side’s opening-day victory over Uganda has given the Carthage Eagles a major confidence boost ahead of their highly anticipated clash with Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The North Africans began their Group C campaign in style on Tuesday, overpowering Paul Put’s Uganda side 3–1 in an impressive display that immediately set the tone for their tournament ambitions.

Tunisia’s performance against the Cranes underlined their intent, with the Carthage Eagles controlling large spells of the game and showing clinical efficiency in front of goal. That result now sees them sitting top of Group C on goal difference, level on three points with Nigeria.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s showdown at the Complexe Sportif de Fès, Hannibal stressed the importance of starting the tournament on a winning note.

“It was important for us to start with victory,” Hannibal said. “Obviously, it gives us momentum going into the next games.”

Nigeria and Tunisia will face off on Saturday in what promises to be one of the standout fixtures of the group stage. Meanwhile, Uganda and Tanzania will meet in the other Group C encounter as both sides look to revive their campaigns.

Opinion: Confidence Meets Caution Ahead of a Heavyweight Battle

Tunisia’s confidence is understandable. A strong opening performance often shapes belief in tournament football, and the Carthage Eagles have every reason to feel encouraged. However, confidence alone may not be enough against a Nigerian side that is equally motivated and packed with individual quality.

For fans, this clash feels like an early test of authority rather than just another group match. With both teams level on points, Saturday’s game could go a long way in deciding who controls the group and enters the knockout stages with momentum.

Tunisia arrive confident, Nigeria arrive determined—and when two former champions collide with so much at stake, AFCON rarely disappoints.
