Mohbad’s Father Denies Allegations of DNA Test Manipulation, Calls for International Oversight
Joseph Aloba, father of the late Nigerian singer Mohbad, has strongly denied claims from the legal team of Mohbad’s widow, Cynthia Wunmi Adebanjo, that he attempted to manipulate the DNA testing of her son, Liam Aloba.
In a letter issued over the weekend by his legal counsel, Oladayo Ogungbe, Aloba clarified that he never sought to delay the DNA process, but in fact initiated the application for the test from the outset. The move, according to Ogungbe, was aimed at ensuring transparency, neutrality, and court-supervised integrity in the collection, handling, and analysis of DNA samples.
During a hearing on December 2, 2025, Ogungbe stated that Adebanjo had allegedly already conducted a DNA test without public disclosure, raising questions about the integrity and transparency of the process. “Her silence in the face of such a grave allegation raises concerns… If she had full confidence in the paternity of the child, there would be no need to secretly conduct a DNA test,” Ogungbe noted.
Aloba also addressed allegations of infidelity, stating that his late son had confided in him regarding troubling revelations about Adebanjo. He stressed that his intentions were fatherly and honourable until these concerns surfaced shortly before Mohbad’s untimely death, which remains shrouded in secrecy.
To guarantee impartiality, Aloba has requested that the DNA test be conducted at internationally accredited laboratories—DNA Diagnostics Center in Ohio, USA, and ORCHID CELLMARK in the UK—while excluding Lagos State officials, citing past inconsistencies during the Coroner’s Inquest into Mohbad’s death. “This alarming inconsistency justifies the Applicant’s insistence on transparent, internationally supervised DNA testing,” Ogungbe stated.
Opinion:
The unfolding dispute underscores the complexities surrounding paternity cases, especially when they involve high-profile personalities. Aloba’s call for international oversight appears prudent, given the concerns raised over transparency and impartiality. While emotions naturally run high in such matters, prioritizing fairness and neutrality in the DNA testing process is essential to protect the interests of all parties involved. Beyond the legal wrangling, this situation highlights the critical need for trust, accountability, and transparency in sensitive family matters—lessons that resonate far beyond celebrity circles.
