Sola Allyson Opens Up About Her Journey from Islam to Christianity

Sola Allyson Opens Up About Her Journey from Islam to Christianity

Renowned Nigerian singer Sola Allyson has shared an intimate look into her spiritual journey, revealing how her childhood experiences shaped her conversion from Islam to Christianity.

In a recent interview on Oyinmomo TV, the ‘Eji Owuro’ crooner reflected on growing up between two homes following her parents’ separation. Born Rasheedat into a Muslim family, she spent her early years with her maternal grandmother in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, practicing the fundamentals of Islam.

Her religious path shifted when she moved to Ikorodu, Lagos, to live with her paternal grandparents. There, she reconnected with an old friend who regularly attended church, and Allyson began accompanying her, gradually exploring Christianity. Despite this shift, she fondly acknowledged her Islamic roots and her birth name, Rasheedat, explaining, “I do not hide it… the meaning of the name is ‘someone who is wise,’ and it makes me happy.”

Allyson also highlighted her openness to learning about different faiths, including Buddhism, and the influence of living among both Muslims and Christians. She emphasized that her spiritual philosophy is guided by understanding God’s will rather than strictly adhering to one religion. Her music career formally began on January 17, 1997, following training at the Celestial Church of Christ, marking the start of a journey where faith and music intertwined.

Opinion:
Sola Allyson’s story is a powerful reminder that spiritual growth is often a personal journey shaped by experiences, exposure, and reflection. Her openness to exploring different faiths and honoring her roots demonstrates a balanced approach to spirituality—one that values understanding and wisdom over rigid labels. In a society where religious identity can sometimes divide, Allyson’s perspective encourages empathy, tolerance, and the idea that faith is ultimately about connection and personal enlightenment. Her journey inspires fans to embrace their own paths with curiosity, respect, and an open heart.
