Tunde Onakoya Turns Down Life-Changing Money to Stay True to His Values

Tunde Onakoya Turns Down Life-Changing Money to Stay True to His Values

Popular Nigerian chess master and founder of Chess in Slums Africa, Tunde Onakoya, has revealed that he recently declined a significant financial offer because it did not align with his values and vision.

Onakoya, who has dedicated his life to using chess as a tool for education and empowerment among underprivileged children, shared his decision in a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter).

“I recently turned down life-changing money. Not because it was exactly wrong, but it did not align with my values or the vision of who I’m becoming.”

The 30-year-old chess advocate admitted that it was not an easy choice, as he struggled with the temptation of accepting the offer. However, he ultimately chose integrity over financial gain.

“It was not an easy decision. I wrestled and tried to justify saying yes, but in the end, integrity is the real wealth. I feel liberated by my decision. I can do anything now.”

He also expressed gratitude to OgaBoxx for guiding him through the complex decision-making process with wisdom and grace.

Opinion: A Rare Commitment to Integrity in a Money-Driven World

In an era where wealth often dictates choices, Onakoya’s decision stands as a rare and inspiring example of integrity. His dedication to impact over income reinforces his credibility as a leader and role model, particularly for young Nigerians striving to make a difference.

His story also raises a crucial question: How many people would be willing to reject financial security to uphold their values? 🤔
