Arsenal Drop Points Again as Manchester United Hold Them to a 1-1 Draw

Arsenal’s hopes of closing the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool suffered a setback after they were held to a 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

With Liverpool securing a 3-1 comeback win over Southampton on Saturday, the pressure was on Mikel Arteta’s side to respond. However, despite dominating possession, Arsenal struggled to break down a determined United side, dropping crucial points yet again.

How the Action Unfolded

The Gunners started brightly, controlling possession and probing United’s backline. But just before half-time, Alejandro Garnacho won a free-kick after being fouled by Leandro Trossard. Bruno Fernandes stepped up and unleashed a powerful strike past David Raya to give the hosts the lead.

Arsenal, however, responded in the second half. Declan Rice, who has been one of their standout performers this season, finished off a low-driven cross to bring the visitors level.

Despite a late push from both sides, neither could find a winner, and the game ended in a stalemate.

What This Means for the Title Race

The result leaves Arsenal on 55 points, now 15 points behind Liverpool, albeit with a game in hand. While mathematically still in the title race, the gap is beginning to look insurmountable unless Liverpool slip up in the coming weeks.

Opinion: Have Arsenal Bottled It?

While a draw at Old Trafford is not a disastrous result, Arsenal’s inability to secure wins when it matters most is becoming a recurring issue. Mikel Arteta’s men had a golden opportunity to apply pressure on Liverpool, yet they came up short once again.

With the business end of the season approaching, Arsenal need to rediscover their clinical edge—or risk seeing their title dreams fade away for another year.
