End of an Era: Rasheedat Ajibade to Leave Atletico Madrid After Stellar Spell

End of an Era: Rasheedat Ajibade to Leave Atletico Madrid After Stellar Spell

Spanish Liga F side Atletico Madrid Femenino has confirmed that Nigerian forward and Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, will depart the club at the end of the current season following the expiration of her contract.

In a heartfelt announcement made via X (formerly Twitter), the club said:

“Our players Cardona, Ajibade, Moraza, and Barth will not continue as Red and White next season and will bid farewell to the fans on Sunday at Alcalá.”

🌟 From Robo Queens to Royalty in Spain

Ajibade, now 25, began her European journey from Robo Queens in Nigeria, where her raw talent and blistering pace first caught the attention of scouts. She joined Atletico Madrid in 2021 and quickly became a fan favorite with her fearless attacking style, creative footwork, and leadership on and off the pitch.

During her time in Spain, Ajibade made 138 appearances, netting 40 goals, and lifting two major trophies—the Supercopa de España (2021) and the Copa de la Reina (2023).

🗣️ Opinion: More Than a Player, A Global Inspiration

Ajibade’s departure marks not just the end of a contract—but the close of a chapter filled with ambition, growth, and global impact. She didn’t just wear the red and white stripes; she wore them with purpose, representing Nigeria’s excellence on one of the biggest stages in women’s football.

Her rise from the gritty pitches of Lagos to the grand arenas of Spain is a blueprint for young African girls dreaming of the impossible. Ajibade proved that talent, when nurtured with resilience and character, can shine anywhere in the world.

Now as she takes the next step—whether it’s another club in Europe or a different football challenge—her legacy at Atletico Madrid remains etched in history.

📢 What’s Next for the ‘Girl With The Blue Hair’?

While no official announcement has been made about her next destination, speculation is already mounting. With her talent and experience, Ajibade is expected to attract interest from top clubs across Europe and even the United States' NWSL.

Wherever she lands next, one thing is clear: she’s not done inspiring, scoring, and leading.
