“Salawa Abeni Is Still My Wife Until Death” – Fuji Legend Kollington Ayinla Sparks Reactions With Bold Claim

“Salawa Abeni Is Still My Wife Until Death” – Fuji Legend Kollington Ayinla Sparks Reactions With Bold Claim

In a surprising and emotionally charged revelation, veteran Fuji icon General Kollington Ayinla has insisted that legendary songstress Salawa Abeni remains his wife “till death,” despite their over three-decade separation and her current romantic relationship with another man.

In a recent interview with media host Teju BabyFace, the 75-year-old musician stirred reactions with his unapologetic claim:

“Salawa has three children with me. She is my wife till the end of life. The person she is currently with is only loaning her.”

The pair, who were a musical power couple in the 1980s, ended their union in 1990 after eight years together and the birth of three children. However, Kollington’s comments suggest that for him, the emotional and cultural tie remains unbroken.

He added that the split was "how God wanted it," and subtly hinted at challenges they faced as celebrities, claiming that female stars like Salawa often face pressures similar to their male counterparts, with admiration and temptations from fans of the opposite sex.

Opinion: Love, Legacy or Possession?

Kollington Ayinla’s words walk a fine line between romantic nostalgia and territorial assertion. For some, it may seem touching—an old man holding on to a love that defined an era. For others, it may read as patriarchal and outdated, particularly in a society evolving toward respect for personal agency and current commitments.

Yes, Salawa Abeni was his wife and they share children, a legacy, and undoubtedly memories that span decades. But to say another man is "loaning" her dismisses her autonomy and present choices. Love can be timeless—but respect must also be timely.

The emotional weight of past relationships can be heavy, especially when fame, family, and cultural expectations are involved. But ultimately, it's the present that defines our reality—not the past alone.

💬 What’s your take on Kollington’s claim?
Is it a beautiful expression of everlasting love or a refusal to let go?
