Wizkid Cancels US Tour Dates Amid Ongoing Grief Over Mother’s Death, Close Associate Reveals

In a heartfelt revelation that has stirred compassion across social media, Godson, a close associate of global Afrobeats star Wizkid, has shared the emotional reason behind the singer’s unexpected cancellation of several major U.S. tour dates.

The news initially sparked confusion and concern among fans after tour dates for Atlanta (June 5), New York (June 7), and Houston (June 19), were suddenly removed from ticketing platforms, with no immediate explanation from Wizkid or his management.

During a recent Q&A session, a fan directly asked Godson,

“Please why did Wizkid cancel his shows? Shed more light.”

Godson’s response was raw and sobering:

“Add him to prayers personally. I think that nigga still grieving and nobody is helping him achieve this sadness.”

Wizkid, born Ayodeji Balogun, lost his beloved mother, Jane Dolapo, in August 2023. Though he returned to the stage months later, it’s clear that the weight of grief continues to rest heavily on him. As a deeply private individual, Wizkid has rarely spoken publicly about his emotional struggles—but those closest to him say he’s still hurting.

Opinion: Even Superstars Need Space to Heal

It’s easy to forget that behind the music, fame, and sold-out arenas is a man still mourning one of the deepest losses anyone can endure—a mother. In a world that often demands constant performance and perfection from celebrities, Wizkid’s silence is not weakness—it’s a cry for space.

Grief is not linear. For some, it’s quiet. For others, it delays, resurfaces, and lingers when the spotlight fades. Wizkid’s decision to step back from his U.S. tour might disappoint fans, but it also reminds us that mental and emotional health must come first.

Let’s give him grace. Let’s respect his silence. And more importantly, let’s keep him in our prayers.
