WAFU B Women’s Champions League: Police Ladies Coach Labels Group B the “Group of Death”

WAFU B Women’s Champions League: Police Ladies Coach Labels Group B the “Group of Death”

Ghana Women’s League champions, Police Ladies, have been handed a tough task in the upcoming WAFU B Women’s Champions League qualifiers, as head coach Yusif Basigi described their group as the most difficult of the competition.

Police Ladies will compete in Group B, which includes Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens (NWFL champions), Association Sportive de la Kozah of Togo, and Sam Nelly FC of Benin.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, Basigi acknowledged the challenge but maintained confidence in his team’s chances.

“For me, the draw is fair, but our group is the toughest. Bayelsa Queens are a big team, but every club here has earned the right to compete. We’ll approach it match by match, with the target of reaching the main tournament,” he said in an interview with SportyFM.

The WAFU B qualifiers are scheduled to take place in Côte d’Ivoire from August 23 to September 4, with the winners earning a ticket to the CAF Women’s Champions League.

Opinion:
There’s no doubt Group B has rightly earned the title of “group of death.” With Bayelsa Queens—a side that has already proven themselves at continental level—and hungry underdogs from Togo and Benin, the Police Ladies face an uphill battle.

But sometimes, the toughest groups bring out the best in teams. Basigi’s confidence and focus on “match by match” progress reflects the resilience Ghanaian sides are known for. Police Ladies have shown grit domestically, and this tournament offers them a golden chance to test their mettle against some of West Africa’s finest.

For fans, this group promises fireworks—big names, underdogs, and the possibility of upsets. And if Police Ladies can navigate their way through, it won’t just be a qualification; it will be a statement that Ghanaian women’s football is ready to step up and dominate the continent.
