Enyimba Hit by Mass Exodus as Eight Players Exit Ahead of 2025/26 NPFL Season
Enyimba FC, one of Nigeria’s most successful football clubs, has been dealt a significant blow ahead of the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, with no fewer than eight key players departing the club, TalkTalk Nigeria reports.
Among the most notable exits is goalkeeper Ani Ozoemena and defender Divine Ukadike, who have both reunited with former Enyimba head coach Finidi George at Rivers United. The move is seen as part of a rebuilding project by Finidi, who recently returned to the Port Harcourt club after a stint with the national team.
Striker Joseph Atule has also switched camps, joining Enyimba’s fierce local rivals, Abia Warriors, in a move that is sure to add spice to the Abia derby.
Meanwhile, Innocent Gabriel, Imo Obot, Fatai Abdullahi, and Emeka Obioma have also moved on to other clubs, although their new destinations remain undisclosed as of press time.
Rebuild Incoming for the People’s Elephant
The mass exit comes after a disappointing campaign that saw Enyimba finish outside the NPFL top three, missing out on continental football. The club's management is now expected to dive into the transfer market to reinforce the squad, with fresh signings anticipated in the coming weeks.
Opinion – A Season of Transition?
With multiple key players leaving and a need for quick squad restructuring, Enyimba could be heading into a transitional season. While the club is known for its pedigree and championship DNA, success in the upcoming season will depend heavily on how quickly the new signings can gel — and whether the club hierarchy backs the technical crew with smart recruitment.
Expectations remain high in Aba, and fans will be hoping the "People's Elephant" bounce back stronger — but time is of the essence.
