Abia Warriors Sign Forward Chindi Merpring Gukut Ahead of CAF Confederation Cup Clash

Abia Warriors Sign Forward Chindi Merpring Gukut Ahead of CAF Confederation Cup Clash

Abia Warriors have bolstered their attacking options with the signing of Chindi Merpring Gukut from Nigeria National League (NNL) side Edel FC.

Gukut, who was Edel’s top scorer last season with four goals and three assists in just seven appearances, has penned a two-year deal with the Umuahia-based club.

The 20-year-old forward is expected to step into a big role immediately, filling the void left by last season’s top scorer Anthony Ijoma, who departed for Bosnian club FC Radnik Bijeljina during the summer transfer window.

Gukut could make his debut this weekend when Abia Warriors face Malian side Djoliba AC in the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round first-leg tie at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.

Opinion: A Bold Step Towards the Future

This signing feels like more than just filling a gap—it’s a statement of intent from Abia Warriors. By turning to a young, hungry striker like Gukut, the club is not only investing in immediate firepower but also showing faith in Nigeria’s rising talents.

Yes, replacing a proven scorer like Ijoma won’t be easy. But football thrives on fresh opportunities, and Gukut now has the perfect stage to prove himself—not just in the domestic league but on the continental front. His quick rise at Edel shows he can deliver under pressure, and if he adapts swiftly, he could become the Warriors’ new fan favorite.

For the supporters, Sunday’s CAF tie is not just about the result—it’s about catching the first glimpse of a potential star in the making. If Gukut announces himself with a strong debut, Abia Warriors might just have unearthed their next talisman.
