Regragui Tips Osimhen, Lookman, Iwobi as Key Threats Ahead of Nigeria–Morocco AFCON Semi-Final

Regragui Tips Osimhen, Lookman, Iwobi as Key Threats Ahead of Nigeria–Morocco AFCON Semi-Final

Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has highlighted Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman and Alex Iwobi as Nigeria’s major threats ahead of Wednesday’s Africa Cup of Nations semi-final clash between the Atlas Lions and the Super Eagles.

Regragui made the comments while reacting to the absence of Nigeria captain Wilfred Ndidi, who will miss the encounter due to suspension. Ndidi’s unavailability is seen as a significant boost for the host nation, with Club Brugge midfielder Raphael Onyedika expected to step in as his replacement in Nigeria’s starting XI.

Speaking to reporters after Morocco’s quarter-final win, Regragui admitted that Ndidi’s absence could work in his team’s favour, but warned that Nigeria still possess enough quality to hurt any opponent.

“Ndidi’s absence will help us,” Regragui said. “But when you have Osimhen, Lookman, and Iwobi, and when you see their bench, they might change their plan, although I consider that unlikely.”

Nigeria booked their place in the semi-finals after a convincing 2-0 victory over Algeria, while Morocco edged past Ivory Coast to set up a mouthwatering last-four showdown.

Opinion & Analysis

Regragui’s comments reflect a deep respect for Nigeria’s attacking firepower, even in the absence of their midfield anchor. Osimhen’s relentless movement, Lookman’s directness, and Iwobi’s intelligence between the lines give the Super Eagles a balance that goes beyond tactical tweaks.

While Ndidi’s suspension may slightly alter Nigeria’s defensive shape, it also underlines the depth within the squad. Onyedika offers energy and composure, and his inclusion could even add a different rhythm to Nigeria’s midfield play.

Ultimately, this semi-final looks set to be decided not by who is missing, but by who rises to the moment. With two confident teams coming off strong quarter-final performances, fans can expect a tactical battle laced with moments of individual brilliance—exactly what AFCON nights are made of.
