MC Fish Breaks Silence on Marriage Crash With Anita Joseph, Defends His Profession
Fisayo Olagunju, popularly known as MC Fish, has finally spoken out following the public breakdown of his marriage to Nollywood actress Anita Joseph, addressing widespread claims about his role in the relationship and his source of income.
In a series of emotional posts shared via his Instagram Stories on Saturday, MC Fish revealed that contrary to popular assumptions, it was Anita Joseph who initially showed interest in him, a connection he said eventually led to their marriage.
The hypeman strongly refuted allegations that he depended financially on his estranged wife throughout their union. He maintained that he has been an MC and hypeman for over 15 years, earning his living through hard work and consistency.
MC Fish also expressed anger over claims that Anita singlehandedly carried the financial responsibilities of their five-year marriage, insisting that he made significant contributions and paid bills when necessary.
Beyond defending himself, he took time to speak up for his profession, criticising the way hypemen are often belittled despite being widely patronised at events and parties.
According to him, the fact that Anita Joseph agreed to marry him was proof that there was dignity and a future in his line of work.
Opinion: While celebrity breakups often attract noise and one-sided narratives, MC Fish’s response highlights a deeper issue — society’s tendency to measure worth solely by status or public visibility. Creative professions like hyping and event hosting may not fit traditional definitions of success, but they are legitimate careers that fuel Nigeria’s entertainment economy. Marriages can fail for many reasons, but reducing a partner’s value to their job or income only deepens public misunderstanding. In the end, relationships thrive on mutual respect, not public applause.
